Darling Downs Speech Pathology
Supporting communication, confidence and connection in everyday life.
Welcome to Darling Downs Speech Pathology
We believe therapy should be as individual as the person receiving it.
Our approach is warm, collaborative and evidence-based, with therapy tailored to each person's strengths, needs and goals.
We aim to make therapy engaging, supportive and enjoyable, while building skills and confidence that make a real difference beyond the therapy room.
Meet Rachel | BSpPath, CPSP
Rachel is passionate about supporting the people she works with to develop the skills they need to communicate confidently and participate in everyday life. She enjoys working collaboratively with families, educators and other professionals to develop practical, functional goals that are meaningful to each person.
Rachel has spent the majority of her career working as a rural generalist Speech Pathologist. During this time, she has continued to develop and refine her skills across assessment and intervention, working across the lifespan in various settings. Her experience includes a wide range of speech sound production, language, communication and swallowing needs.
She particularly enjoys working with late talkers, as well as children through to young adults, with a focus on speech sound production, language, literacy skills and voice.
Rachel brings a warm, encouraging approach to her sessions, creating a space where everyone feels comfortable, supported, and excited to learn. She believes therapy is most effective when it is engaging, collaborative, and connected to what matters most to each person and their family.
Services
Speech Sounds
Speech sounds are the sounds we use when talking. Some people find certain sounds tricky to say or may use one sound instead of another. We can help by assessing sounds and providing supportive therapy, helping them develop clearer speech and feel more confident communicating with others.
Language
Language helps us understand what others are saying, share our thoughts and ideas, and connect with the people around us. We support people who find it difficult to follow instructions, understand questions, find the right words or put sentences together. Our therapy focuses on building everyday communication skills to help people express themselves, understand others and communicate with confidence.
Literacy
Literacy skills help us read, write, understand information and participate in everyday life. We support people who find reading, spelling, writing or understanding written information difficult. Therapy focuses on building skills at every stage of learning, from recognising sounds and letters to reading, writing, and understanding more complex information. Our goal is to develop practical literacy skills that build confidence and independence at school, work and in everyday life.
Voice
Our voice helps us communicate, express ourselves and connect with others. We support people experiencing changes in their voice, including difficulty speaking loudly, clearly, or confidently.
We have a particular interest in and extensive experience in supporting people living with Parkinson's disease through SPEAK OUT!®, a specialised voice therapy program developed by Parkinson Voice Project. Therapy focuses on speaking with intent to develop a stronger, clearer voice and support confident communication in everyday life.
